Company van tax calculator

If you drive a company van and use it entirely on business, then you won’t need this tool.

But if the use of your van covers private use as well, such as shopping at the supermarket at weekends, then this van tax calculator will let you know how much you need to pay in benefit in kind tax.

While HMRC does allow some ‘occasional’ private use – such as dropping off the kids at school on your way to work, or popping into the local supermarket on the way home to pick up a few groceries – then you will be exempt from paying company van tax. But note that word ‘occasional’. If it’s more than occasional, company van tax may well apply.

This company van tax calculator will calculate benefit in kind tax payable on panel vans, double cab vans and double cab pick ups.

How to use the company van tax calculator

There are three drop down menus.

  1. Choose your make of van – eg Vauxhall
  2. Next choose the model – eg Vivaro panel van
  3. Choose the fuel type

The menu then lists all the Vivaro panel van models; choose your van and the calculator will show you how much tax you have to pay (20% and 40% tax rates) – the vehicle benefit tax.

As well as this, the van tax calculator shows you how much money you will have to pay for free fuel if that is provided by your employer. This is called fuel benefit tax.
