What about a manufacturer conversion?
Some manufacturer conversions of new vans come with full type approval.
They are effectively factory-fitted conversions covered by the regular warranty and you’ll wait, in theory, no longer to take delivery than any other new van you order.
On the whole, the choice of conversions is limited for an off-the-shelf type-approved converted van.
Ford, for instance, offers One Stop Shop on tipper, dropside, box and curtain slider vans.
Volkswagen’s Engineered to Go – all supplied with type approval – covers tippers and dropsides across two wheelbases and single or double cabs.
Citroen’s range – Relay Specialist – covers tipper, dropside and Luton vans.
Vauxhall, however, offers a huge range of 56 converted Movano models in what it calls its ‘core conversions’. These are all factory built and include dropsides, tippers and box vans, as well as single and crew cabs in three lengths.
They all come with type approval and a manufacturer warranty. Vauxhall also offers more specialist conversions, which it calls ‘recognised conversions’. These are handled locally by dealers and specialist converters and usually subject to IVA.
This is common with the other van manufacturers. Citroen, for instance, handles specialist conversions under its Ready to Run banner and Volkswagen does the same with its Engineered For You range of conversions.
Under such specialist schemes, if you want a conversion that requires IVA, expect to join the queue.
