Refreshed Volkswagen Amarok key points

  • Now open to order with first deliveries in January
  • Prices from £32,493 for 204bhp V6 Trendline up to £39,381 limited edition 236bhp Aventura
  • 2.0-litre TDI has been replaced by a 3.0-litre V6 TDI – the first six-cylinder in the pick-up segment
  • 236bhp range-topper gives 119mph top speed and 0-60mph in just 8 seconds.

THERE’S a face-lifted version of the Volkswagen Amarok – our Best Pick-up for the last two years – and the refreshed Volkswagen Amarok is now available to order from Volkswagen Van Centres with 3.0 V6 TDI under the bonnet.

Outside, like the rest us, Volkswagen obviously felt there wasn’t much wrong with the exterior – as the changes over the outgoing model are subtle. On closer inspection, you’ll spot the reshaped front bumper and new fog lights and revised alloy wheel designs, while at the back, points are scored for noticing that the rear brake lights are now LED.

Inside, the face-lift changes for the Amarok are more obvious with the all-new central dash design incorporating Volkswagen’s latest MIB touch-screen infotainment system with touchscreen. Bluetooth and DAB radio are now part of the standard kit, with options including navigation, Guide & Inform, Car-Net and App-Connect systems.

The latest Amarok isn’t just about all the standard kit. As you’d expect from a Volkswagen, there’s a comprehensive list of standard safety features too, with four airbags, Electronic Stabilisation Programme and Volkswagen’s award-winning Automatic Post-Collision Braking System all included.

Under the bonnet, the old four-cylinder 2.0-litre TDI has been replaced by a 3.0-litre V6 TDI – the first six-cylinder in the pick-up segment. In the range-topping version of this engine, a clever over boost function takes the power from 220bhp to a hot hatch-rivalling 236bhp. This equals a top speed of 119mph and 0-60mph acceleration in just 8 seconds.

More car-like cabin features

Combining car-like comfort and technology with full off-road capability, UK customers can choose from selectable (with manual gearbox) and permanent (with auto) 4MOTION four-wheel drive. An optional mechanical rear-axle differential lock is also available for demanding off-road use.

UK specifications mirror the previous generation and run from the Startline (available later in 2017), through Trendline to Highline. Special editions, like the last-generation Amarok, will also be a key part of the face-lifted range, with the range-topping Aventura of which just 240 examples will be available from launch.

Additional special kit for the Aventura includes bi-xenon headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights, plus 19-inch alloy wheels with 255/55 wide tyres and arch extensions, plus the bed of the Aventura’s cargo box also has a matt black Durabed coating.

The interior of the Aventura is no less exclusive, with the ‘Discover Media’ navigation system with mobile online services. Also included is the ParkPilot automatic parking system, featuring front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera. This model is available in exclusive Ravenna Blue metallic paint finish.

Prices for the Amarok start at £32,493 for the Trendline with 204 PS, up to the limited edition Aventura launch model costing £39,381.
