- This SsangYong might have welcome, switchable four-wheel drive as standard. But despite this, we had some grip issues during the time we had this pick up. We’re not sure if it was a problem limited to this particular test car and its Hankook rubber, but when we eventually got going the traction control system seemed to come on with annoying frequency – even in the dry! This was actually welcome, as one day when coming off a wet roundabout at low speed, it snapped right and without this help, we’d surely have been in the undergrowth.
- Despite its name, there is nothing remotely sporty about the way the Korando Sports drives. The steering is woolly and imprecise and despite the innovative multi-link rear suspension, there’s some body roll. The ride is really unsettled around town too, although it does get better at speed.
Verdict:
If you can get past the exterior styling and variable interior quality, the SsangYong Korando Sports has a lot to offer the pick-up buyer. Compared to rivals it doesn’t cost much to buy, it has an impressive amount of standard equipment, shouldn’t cost too much to run and can seat five in relative comfort. This SsangYong is definitely worthy of a second look.
