THE Toyota Hilux is 50 years old. And who wouldn’t celebrate such an important half century for such an iconic pick-up?

Certainly not Toyota.

At the recent CV Show it launched the Invincible X.

You can spot an Invincible X because it sports a new frontal treatment. This includes a new grille with gloss black inserts and contrasting chrome frame, plus a new-look front bumper, fog lights and silver under-run.

The striking styling continues at the rear where there is a new step and a silver under-run beneath the licence plate.

Inside, the Double Cab cabin has an all-black theme, with contrasting chrome instrument panel trim and piano black inserts on the dashboard, door panels, steering wheel and gear shift lever and surround.

The instrument binnacle has new features, including white dials and a centre TFT multi-information display with a dedicated Invincible X start-up animation that activates each time the ignition is switched on – well, it’s worth celebrating 50 every day isn’t it?

Even the key is model-specific, featuring a silhouette sketch of the new frontal design.

In terms of equipment features, the Invincible X matches the existing Hilux Invincible specification. Features include:

  • Toyota Safety Sense, with Pre-Collision System Lane Departure Warning and Road Sign Assist,
  • cruise control,
  • Toyota Touch 2 with Go multimedia system with navigation and six-speaker audio system,
  • Bluetooth,
  • rear-view camera,
  • automatic air conditioning and
  • leather upholstery.

Power comes from the standard Hilux 148bhp 2.4-litre D-4D engine fitted with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Gareth Matthews, Toyota’s LCV Manager said:

“Invincible X is our halo grade. It helps us celebrate 50 years of Hilux with its different frontal treatment and, along with the Limited Edition version, is a great way to mark such an achievement.”

Invincible X Limited Edition model

If you want to make your Invincible X – well, a bit more Invincible than all the others – then Toyota is offering an Invincible X Limited Edition model.

This was the show model on the Toyota stand at the CV Show. To create an even more dramatic street presence, the Invincible X Limited Edition will be available  in two stand-out body colours: Scorched Orange and Nebula Blue.

These provide a strong contrast with the model’s black exterior styling elements, including black 18-inch alloys, side steps and high-over bar.

Both the new Hilux Invincible X and Limited Edition versions will be available from July costing from £29,921 + VAT.

Toyota Hilux Arctic Truck AT 35

If you want a bit more off-road performance – or road presence – then here’s the AT35 Arctic Trucks official conversion. Cool truck, cool price…

Toyota Hilux AT35 debuts at CV Show

If the Invincible X is not enough for you, then try this: Hilux AT35.

Pumped up in every direction, this Arctic Trucks built version of the Hilux will be available through the Toyota centre network as an official conversion.

Which means you can look outrageous but still benefit from the same five-year/100,000-mile warranty as other Hilux models.

Special features of the Hilux AT35 include 35” all-terrain tyres, bespoke performance suspension for secure ride and handling and a 25 percent higher ground clearance.

Matthews said about the AT35 model:

“We have a long history with Arctic Trucks. The model is locally converted by Artic Trucks in the UK and the conversion is based on the Invincible or Invincible X.

“Models are ordered from central stock which are then sent to Artic Trucks for the conversion. The whole process usually takes about four to six weeks.

“In terms of who will want an AT35, then we expect some working element demand but more than that, we expect people to order the AT35 simply because they want a massively cool vehicle.”

Expect the price to be from £34,000 + VAT.
