60mph in around 11 seconds wouldn’t be out of place in a car

Handling benefits from the ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) incorporating ABS, Brake Assist System (BAS), and Traction Control System (TCS).

There’s also Hill Hold Assist and, when it comes to dealing with more difficult terrain, the Amarok has off-road ABS, Electronic Differential Lock (EDL), and Hill Descent Control. There’s even Trailer Stability Control.

A hint of what to expect inside – all very comforting

If (or when) you need to venture off tarmac, it’s a simple matter of selecting the ‘off-road’ button by the gearshift.

The Amarok acquits itself well on low-traction surfaces and unless your business involves serious mud-plugging, it should be up to the type of duty you could reasonably expect.

The cab is a delightful place to be.

The controls and instruments have all the well designed yet functional qualities typical of Volkswagen. The leather seating is verging on the sumptuous. It’s comfortable and cosseting, and the stylish trim touches add to the feeling of luxury.

Rear-seat passengers will be happy too, with ample leg room.

The Amarok Canyon comes with a very practical roll-top cover over the loadbed. It locks securely and should be good enough to keep your gear safe. For bulky loads, just roll it back.

All Volkswagens  come with a three-year/100,000-mile warranty and three years of Volkswagen Assistance. Service intervals are determined by driving style and usage, and can vary from a minimum of 9000 miles or one year, to a maximum of 25,000 miles or two years.
