Pick-ups are governed by the same speed limits as apply to commercial vehicles

Pick-ups and double-cabs: van speed limits

Different laws apply to cars and drivers of pick-up speed limits.

The speed limit for pick-ups is not the same as the law applying to cars.

Pick-up speed limits are lower than cars on both single- and dual carriageway roads.

For example, a car can travel at 60mph on a single carriageway road, and 70mph on dual carriageways. However, a pick-up can must travel 10mph less in each case, at only 50mph and 60mph respectively.

What about motorways?

Pick-ups of up to 7.5 tonnes gvw can travel at 70mph on a motorway.

What if I’m towing a trailer?

For a pick-up with a total weight of not more than 7.5 tonnes with trailer, the limit is 50mph on single carriageways; and 60mph on both dual carriageways and motorways.
