PEUGEOT has revealed its longer L2 version of the Partner Electric SE Electric van to beat any city restrictions in emissions clampdowns, like the new sister version of the L2 550 LX Citroen Berlingo Electric.

The L2 model adds 250mm load length over  the L1 model at 2,050mm and load volume is extended to 3.7m3. With the folding multiflex passenger seat, fitted as standard, the load length can be extended to 3,250mm and load volume increased to 4.1m3.

Another bonus of the Lithium-ion battery packs that are fitted under the load floor, is that there is no loss of load space compared with a conventional diesel powered Partner L2 model. Side loading doors each side will be fitted as standard to all Partner L2 Electric models, as with diesel equivalent L2 models.

The Partner L2 Electric has the same electric drivetrain that’s fitted to the Partner SE L1 Electric van. This is a compact and highly efficient permanent magnet synchronous motor, producing 49kW (67hp) at 4,000rpm and maximum torque of 200Nm. The Partner is front wheel drive and is driven through a speed reducer and single ratio gearbox.

The Peugeot Partner Electric’s 22.5kWh high-capacity lithium-ion batteries offer a range of up to 106 miles, measured on the NEDC cycle. The batteries can be re-charged to 80 per cent capacity in 30 minutes, from a dedicated rapid charge point, using the van’s D/C rapid charging port, which is standard on all Peugeot electric vans. The drive motor also provides regenerative braking when slowing down, helping to re-charge the batteries and reduce brake wear.

Peugeot has also been listening to current Partner Electric owners. In response to feedback, all new Peugeot Partner L1 and L2 Electric models are now fitted with a 16 amp, Type 2 charging cable. This cable is compatible with the majority of public access charging points, and in November 2016, the Government announced a workplace grant for charge points, enabling customers to take advantage of a price reduction for Type 2 EV charge points.

Power comes from the same electric drivetrain fitted to the Partner SE L1 Electric van, providing a compact and highly efficient permanent magnet synchronous motor, producing 49kW (67hp) at 4,000rpm and maximum torque of 200Nm. The front wheels are driven through a speed reducer and single ratio gearbox.

Choose a rapid charge point and these batteries can be re-charged to 80 per cent capacity in 30 minutes, via a dedicated rapid charge point, using the van’s D/C rapid charging port – which is standard on all Peugeot electric vans. Choose a Partner Electric and you’re eligible for the Plug in Van Grant (PiVG) from the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV), reducing the purchase price of this van.

So with prices for the new Peugeot Partner SE L2 Electric starting at £22,180 (exc. VAT), this grant will cover 20 per cent of the cost of this vehicle, including VAT but excluding on-the-road costs – worth up to £5,323.20 to Partner SE L2 Electric van buyers (reduced accordingly when manufacturer discount offered).

More good news for Partner SE L2 Electric drivers in London. They will be eligible for the Ultra-Low Emission Discount (ULED), which provides a 100 per cent discount from the London Congestion Charge, an exemption worth over £2,000 per year – and no worries about the new London T-Charge or Ultra Low Emission Zone restrictions.

London Boroughs such as Hackney also offer a 100 per cent discount on parking permits for electric vehicles, which could save a Partner Electric owner £1,750 per year. Finally, all PEUGEOT Partner electric vans are exempt from Vehicle Excise Duty, bringing a saving of £230 per year – and the exemption will continue under the new VED scheme from April 2017.
