VOLKSWAGEN Vans invited Business Vans to Germany for the reveal of its range-topper, the all-new VW Crafter to end a summer of teasing.
Gone are the boxy looks and shared Mercedes Sprinter underpinnings, to be replaced by a unique chassis and curvier, sleeker style.
Design highlights have to be the large headlights, distinctive Volkswagen family grille, plus the unique wheel arches and scooped design line down the sides. These all add up to the Crafter being the sleekest van in its class with a Cd of just 0.33.
In fact, we believe the new Crafter is surely the most attractive big van this side of the all-conquering Ford Transit.
Underneath the curvy body, there’s a choice of four versions of the familiar 2.0-litre TDI diesel in 100, 120, 138 and bi-turbo 175bhp outputs. Coupling with the four different engines, new Crafter buyers will have the choice of manual or automatic transmissions, with front, rear or four-wheel drive.
Volkswagen wheeled out many Crafters for us to see at the launch, but the big news is three different vehicle lengths, depending on model and three different roof heights. Volkswagen will also be offering a range of specialist body styles from the Polish factory to suit particular needs.
If the styling and variety aren’t enough to attract you to the new Volkswagen Crafter, the active and passive safety tech will! With ESP with trailer stabilisation, adaptive cruise control, side-wind assistance and a trailer manoeuvring system – all standard or offered as optional equipment.
The new Crafter will be launched in the UK early next year. Business Vans will bring you more news on this new Volkswagen commercial as soon as we have it.
