AS the cost of diesel soars to a record high – 143.96p average a litre in February but it’s gone higher since says the AA – reducing fuel spend must be key to every SME business that operates a fleet of vans.
But technology can help, says GPRS tracking maker Trakm8. It has a new driver behavior module at the CV Show 2012 (NEC April 24 – 26).
If you can modify and improve the driving behaviour of your company van drivers, then you should be able to reduce the fuel spend by improving driver fuel economy.
Trakm8 says its new driver behavior module can be used with either of Trakm8’s tracking units, the T8 and the recently launched T8 mini. The module can be situated on the dash to give the driver visual feedback through Red-Amber-Green (RAG) traffic light indicators that denote their driving style in real time; highlighting areas for safer, more fuel efficient driving. These configurable feedback areas include braking and acceleration, cornering, over revving, idling and speeding.
The information is fed directly to the driver but a report is also sent back to your company van manager for review. By making subtle changes in these driving styles and behaviours, Trakm8 says customers have seen a significant improvement in fuel usage.
To understand more about this business van news, Trakm8 will be demonstrating this new technology on stand in Hall 3 on stand F50 at the CV Show.
