VAUXHALL adds Best Green Van to its other Vivaro awards won in the 2016 Business Van of the Year Awards.
But, how did the 1.6 120PS Bi-Turbo version of Vauxhall’s Transit Custom rival manage to topple last year’s zero-emission winner – the all-electric Nissan e-NV200?
Vauxhall Vivaro 1.6CDTi 16v BiTurbo 120PS L1H1 Sportive
- Gross vehicle weight: 2,760kg
- Payload: 1,092kg
- Load volume: 8.6 cu m
- Fuel economy (combined): 47.9mpg
- CO2 emissions: 155 g/km
- Price (ex-VAT): £21,553
Well, Vauxhall’s development of diesel engines has resulted in impressive green credentials for the Vivaro, as the 1.6 BiTurbo engine fitted is capable of a class-leading fuel figure of 47.9mpg.
Think these fuel figures have only been seen in the test centre? Well according to Vauxhall, when the Vivaro has been tested in independent economy challenges, it has been found to exceed 50mpg easily!
Obviously, load changes will affect the fuel economy, but real world feedback leads Vauxhall to predict comfortably that our ‘Best Green Van Award Winner’ will crack 40mpg as a benchmark, with a theoretical range in excess of 800 miles.
All of this means for the environmentally-aware SMEs, that through efficiency savings, the Vauxhall Vivaro in 120PS 1.6 BiTurbo Sport helps minimise its environmental impact.
Dave Bowen, chairman of the judges and managing director of BT Fleet, said of the Vivaro: “The Bi-Turbo engine on the Vivaro provides outstanding green credentials and a fantastic overall small business solution. Fuel economy is class-leading with 47.9mpg combined on the panel van and an astonishing 49.6mpg on the Combi. And when tested on the road in economy challenges, fuel economy has been found to exceed 50mpg. Clearly when fully loaded, fuel economy will be reduced.
“Nevertheless the reported urban figure of 40pmg is still a very credible benchmark. And with a reported range in excess of 800 miles, the Vivaro eco FLEX BiTurbo offers a hard working business tool that through sheer efficiency helps minimise its environmental impact.”
The Business Van Awards 2016 are sponsored by Vanarama.
