New Ford Transit

Having launched the Ford Transit Custom and Connect models last year, Ford has completed the renewal of the Transit range with the biggest of the lot, now called simply the Ford Transit. The whole range will be at the CV Show

THE Commercial Vehicle Show is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever this year. The doors open on 29 April with a dazzling range of vehicles, kit and conversions on show. Among those, there are five vans you must see.

1. Ford Transit 2 tonne

The new Ford Transit is fresh from the nuts and bolts upwards and after driving this van in Barcelona, Business Vans‘ verdict was: “Wow! This new model blows away the opposition in terms of frugality, drivability, loadspace and maintenance costs.”

The old Transit had to cover two different sectors  from 2.6 tonnes to 4.7 tonnes gross vehicle weight, whereas its rivals had two different offerings.

The new Transits all have car-like interiors and driving qualities

With the launch of the smaller Transit Custom to rave reviews last year, that’s all changed. Ford has split Transit into two distinct vans.

The Ford Transit is now available in front, rear and all-wheel drives at weights of between 2.9 tonnes and 4.7 tonnes, with prices starting at £20,795 ex-VAT.

It’s powered by 2.2-litre turbodiesel engines with 100bhp, 125bhp and 155bhp outputs. There is also the choice of new HDT6 engines at 125bhp and 155bhp which meet the forthcoming Euro 6 emissions standard, with the addition of an AdBlue tank.

ECOnetic versions include stop-start and a speed limiter giving an official combined fuel economy figure of 44.1mpg – that’s 6% better than before.

Three lengths and two roof heights are available and the new Transit offers up to 11% more loadspace than the old model.

What’s more, Ford has produced the first ever heavy panel van that actually drives like a car.

Ford Transit Connect

The new Transit Connect will also be on the Ford Stand

And while you’re on the Ford stand, remember to check out the all-new Transit Connect.

New Connect is nothing like the old Connect. It’s an all-new design on a new platform. It’s got the new sexy Ford family face and the styling is bang up to the minute with streamlined front end and deeply angled front screen.

In common with the Custom and Transit, Ford has transformed its light van from the ground-up. It’s practical as a working tool, car-like to drive and comes in a host of configurations to suit most requirements.
