Christmas delivery spike: rental is answer

Rental use underpins Christmas delivery schedules

BUSINESS van operators are always under intense pressure at this time of year to meet the spike in delivery requirements.

However, leading vehicle rental solution provider, Nexus, says it’s been making Christmas happen for many firms by sourcing over a thousand vans a week from its extensive supply chain since the end of November.

“This is exactly the sort of work that we can fulfil, working with our network of more than 80 rental companies across the UK,” confirmed Neil McCrossan, chief executive officer, Nexus Vehicle Rental.

“Our goal is to provide complete rental solutions to our clients and that means we need to be able to find whatever type of vehicle they need, wherever they need it.”

A study from 2007 by AA Insurance found that small business van operators contributed over £35 billion annually to the UK economy and had an estimated turnover of £215 billion per year. However, nearly 25% questioned in the survey said that significant money (on average £362 per day) would be lost if their van was not available for a day or longer.

Mr McCrossan commented: “Even the largest single rental company would be challenged by the Christmas increase in demand – but we can meet this very specific, short-term requirement with all kinds of vans for all kinds of places. That’s because we work with major rental companies plus very many independent and specialist providers across the country, all of whom meet the service standards set by us and demanded by our clients.

“And this work is especially rewarding because we know we’re helping to make Christmas happen for many families,” added Mr McCrossan.
