The Transit Customs are 310 short-wheelbase models with 2.2-litre 100hp TDCi engines

ENERGY company E.ON is equipping its meter men with 118 new Ford Transit Custom vans for use nationwide.

The vans are the first on the E.ON fleet to have been through the new Whole Vehicle Type Approval ‘enhancement’ scheme. The scheme came into force earlier this year and covers van conversions and the addition of after-market equipment.

The Transit Custom vans – all 310 short-wheelbase models with 2.2-litre 100hp TDCi engines –have been converted by Qi Van Systems for use by the E.ON meter installers, including the fitment of special racking in the load area, Trakm8 telematics and an AVI alarm system.

Ford’s fuel-saving ECOnetic technologies such as Auto-Start-Stop and Smart Regenerative Charging give the Transit Custom of up to 46.3mpg.

The Transit Custom also offers class-leading load-carrying ability, with features such as the load-through hatch in the bulkhead for extra-long items, plus an integrated roof rack which can be folded away when not in use.

The Transit Custom has a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating and offers strong residual values.
