DELIVERING fresh flowers is what London based florist Flower Station does for a living.

But keeping its vans fresh and its drivers efficient was another matter – and that’s why the flower delivery firm’s fleet of vans is getting a vehicle management package from Lightfoot.

“We will be able to quickly and easily monitor the health of our vehicle fleet and ensure that we remain at maximum efficiency,” said Karl Bradley, Logistics Coordinator at Flower Station.

So what has Flower Station done? It has installed Lightfoot’s new Vehicle Management package, along with the GPS tracing technology.

The company wants to improve the smoothness of its van drivers, quickly identify vehicle faults and keep on top of vehicle maintenance issues.

There’s a live, automatically updated oversight of service, tax and MOT expiry dates. This is accessible both by drivers and managers through the portal and it allows for quick and easy scheduling, which reduces administration time and increases fleet efficiency.

The Vehicle Management package, which is in the process of being rolled-out across Flower Station’s fleet of delivery vans, also uses Lightfoot’s connected vehicle functionality to automatically monitor and detect any vehicle faults.

Using the Lightfoot portal, it alerts the driver and manager to any issues that have been logged in the vehicle’s onboard computers, including faults that might not have generated a fault light on the vehicle dashboard. More importantly, it advises the user about the nature of the fault. This helps to catch issues early, reducing the need for vehicle downtime.

Dan Regan, Head of Innovation at Lightfoot, commented: “We are delighted to be working with Flower Station to roll out our new vehicle management package.

Flower Station’s Karl Bradley added: “Flower Station is pleased to be the first to adopt this new package and to be working with Lightfoot to create smoother drivers.”

What is Lightfoot?

Lightfoot is an award-winning, government-supported technology to make driving more efficient. It will be of interest to small van fleets that want to improve their operating costs and driver behaviour.

It does this by rewarding better drivers and helping them monetise their good driving.

There are two core components:

A small device that communicates directly with the vehicle’s engine and provides the driver with visual and verbal feedback to enable them to stay within the engine’s ‘sweet spot’ for optimum efficiency.

A rewards platform that enables drivers to benefit personally from better driving (whether at work or at home) through competitions, prizes, discounts and other incentives.

Described by many as the ‘Fitbit for vans’, Lightfoot has pioneered a new standard and way of measuring efficient driving. It has been developed in partnership with the Institute of Advanced Motorists and leading driver-behaviour experts at Bath University. It uses advanced, real-time engine analytics to provide live, in-cab coaching to help drivers improve both efficiency and safety – and then get rewarded for it.
