It’s a dominant performance but the second-placed brand is also celebrating – not Vauxhall, but Volkswagen. The German marque claimed 13.6 per cent of the market with a record 36,925 registrations, up 19.3 per cent over 2012.
Volkswagen’s Transit-rivalling Transporter climbed 16.4 per cent with 16,269 examples registered. That’s significantly less than the 18,180 Vivaros of third-placed Vauxhall, and the Luton brand points keenly to the fact that it shifted 34 per cent more of its best-selling van in 2013.
The Vivaro, however, needs more support from its stablemates.
Vauxhall’s overall market share actually dropped back in 2013, from 11.07 to 10.97 per cent, with Mercedes-Benz (9.47) and Citroen (8.48) closing the gap.
