Ford Transit Custom piles up accolades with Irish Van of Year award

The Continental Irish Van of the Year award is presented to Ciaran McMahon of Ford Ireland by Paddy Murphy of award sponsors Continental Tyres Ireland

IT’S been Britain’s favourite van for years and it’s popularity looks set to continue.

Ford’s Transit continues to pile up accolades with the Transit Custom voted Continental Irish Van of the Year 2013 by the Irish Motoring Writers Association (IMWA).

The new Transit Custom is already International Van of the Year 2013, having been awarded the title in September at the Hanover Commercial Vehicle Show by a 24-strong international jury of specialist journalists.

The latest award was presented earlier today during a ceremony at the Convention Centre in Dublin attended by leading figures from the motor industry.

The Transit Custom, with 69 points, finished ahead of the Citroen Berlingo Airstream on 49 points and the Peugeot Partner Euro 5 (44 points).

Jury votes were cast on the criteria of value-for-money, reliability, versatility and lasting residual value, among other attributes.

The award was presented to Ciaran McMahon of Ford Ireland by Paddy Murphy of award sponsors Continental Tyres Ireland, who said: “We witness great progress being made in commercial vehicles each year, not least in terms of fuel economy and driver technology, and Ford’s Transit Custom is a case in point. These and other strengths make it a worthy bearer of the title Continental Irish Van of the Year 2013.”

Last year’s business van winner was the Volkswagen Crafter.

Earlier this month, Ford’s new Ranger pick-up beat the competition in the International Pick-Up Award 2013. Judges praised its on- and off-road prowess, strong engine line-up, payload and towing capability, and safety.
