LIFE’s a bed of roses for florists Gareth and Amanda Sweet since taking delivery of a new Mercedes-Benz Citan.
The couple, who bought their business Rays Florists in 2000, have been waiting for the arrival of the Citan since hearing about the entry of Mercedes-Benz into the small van market in 2011.
“We planned our vehicle requirements around the Citan coming out and I’m glad we did,” Gareth told Business Vans. “Not only is it the perfect size for our business, but we’re already making valuable savings on our fuel bill too.”
The Sweets bought a Long-bodied 109 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY model from local dealer Rossetts Commercials.
They previously relied on a series of Mercedes-Benz Vito models for runs to wholesale flower markets. But since expanding the online side of their business, their suppliers have been delivering to them.
They are now using the Citan to distribute flowers to customers across Surrey, Berkshire and Hampshire and occasionally further afield.
The fuel consumption of the109 CDI model’s 90hp diesel engine is enhanced by a series of BlueEFFICIENCY measures, which including the ECO start/stop function, low rolling resistance tyres and optimised alternator and battery management systems. This gives an economy figure of up to 65.7mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 112g/km.
The van provides 3.7cu m of loadspace and should more be required the option of a hinged bulkhead and flat-folding passenger seat provides extra loadspace.
And the Citan is also giving the business a high profile with its eye-catching appearance in black, with colour-coded door mirrors, set off by multi-spoke alloy wheels, and striking, pink livery provided by Reade Signs, also based in Aldershot.
Gareth Sweet added: “The Citan looks great and is a joy to drive, while also proving highly economical to run. It’s living up to all our expectations. We’re very pleased too with the first-class service we receive from Rossetts Commercials.”
