Story: RALPH MORTON

Ford knows that you van drivers like your vans made tough.

And there’s no point launching a brand new van, like the new Ford Transit Custom, unless it’s made extra tough.

So, before the new Ford Transit Custom was launched, Ford engineeers subjected the van to some rigorous testing, including this slam door test in the video. The Transit Custom was subjected to more than a quarter of a million ‘slam tests’.

The slam test was one of 30 separate durability tests performed on the all-new Ford Transit Custom. The worst, reckons Ford, was the Trailer Tow General Durability test, which concertinas a full 10 years’ working life into test runs over six months that last 24/7 towing a fully laden trailer for most of the test procedure.

The tests were carried out at Ford’s proving ground at Lommel, Belgium.

So when you next slam the door of the new Transit Custom, you’ll know that Ford has made it extra tough to withstand the worst you can throw at it. Or slam at it!
