THE historic town of Derry~Londonderry in Northern Ireland – UK City of Culture 2013 – has picked the Chinese-built Great Wall Steed pick-up as official partner vehicle for the celebrations.
Two Steed SEs will provide essential transport for artists and equipment, in addition to media personnel and guests, to and from the city’s venues and events.
More than one million people are expected to visit the walled city to attend a broad range of events in celebration of Derry~Londonderry’s UK City of Culture status.
Under the agreement with Culture Company 2013, Great Wall supplied the two co-branded Steed SE pick-ups and will also provide additional vehicles to help spread the load during peak times in the schedule.
The Great Wall Steed SE, at £15,998 (CVOTR), is the UK’s most competitively priced high-specification 4×4 double-cab pick-up. Its 1050kg load capacity, 138cm x 146cm x 48cm (length, width, depth) cargo area with hard-top canopy, and rear parking sensors make the two five-seater Steed SEs well suited as event transport.
The Steed is powered by a 2.0-litre 16-valve turbocharged diesel engine that achieves combined fuel consumption of 34.0mpg, and is equipped with a low-range gearbox and selectable four-wheel-drive system.
City of Culture sponsorship manager Sarah Hughes told Business Vans: “This vehicle partnership with Great Wall provides essential support to our logistics operations. From transporting drum kits and amplifiers to marketing materials and key personnel, Great Wall’s Steed SE is the perfect workhorse for our purposes, offering high load and passenger capacity, excellent durability and a comfortable ride.”
