IF there were any doubts that electric vans are a viable option for business use they may soon be dispelled. In a recent MPG marathon the recently updated Renault Kangoo Van Z.E.33 surpassed all expectations.

This updated Kangoo Van Z.E.33 has an official NEDC range of 170 miles – up over 60 per cent on the previous version – which Renault says is the equivalent of up to 124 miles range in real world conditions.

Well the electric Kangoo smashed those official range and energy consumption figures during the 2017 MPG Marathon held last weekend.

Over the 294 mile course of the MPG Marathon the Renault Kangoo Van Z.E.33 achieved an average consumption figure of 4.5 miles per kilowatt-hour of electricity. That is ten percent more than the official NEDC figure and around fifty percent more than Renault’s claimed real world figure.

The organisers of the event pointed out that electric vans were becoming increasing viable, saying:

“With the Kangoo Van Z.E. achieving energy efficiency which could allow a range of 200 miles to a full charge – not to mention near-silent running, gearshift-free driving and zero tailpipe emissions – battery-electric vehicle technology is proving itself to be a very viable alternative to a petrol or diesel model.”

Renault were equally enthusiastic with the result of the MPG Marathon that demonstrated “that it is possible to not only achieve but also to over-exceed these figures – consuming even less energy and costing businesses even less to run.”

Now we know the official “real world” range could be significantly higher than the 124 miles Renault quote it should highlight the benefits of running electric vans to a wider range of business users.

The Renault Kangoo Van Z.E.33 is available in a range of body styles including Panel Van, Maxi, and Crew Cab variants, so there is plenty of flexibility to suit most business uses. The Master Z.E. – an all-electric version of Renault’s large panel van – will also join the line-up from early 2018, expanding the range even further.

The Kangoo Van Z.E.33 is priced from £14,194.67 +VAT (inc Plug-in Van Grant). It also benefits from improved charging capabilities – a full charge now takes around 6 hours thanks to a new 32 amp charger – so not only can it stay on the road longer but it will also be off it for less time.

You can’t really argue with that.
