Tight emissions control and good economy were top of the list when Sevenoaks District Council went van hunting

SEVENOAKS District Council was quick off the mark when it came to buying the new Ford Transit Connect – the Kent council is the first local authority to take delivery of the new model, which was recently voted International Van of the Year 2014.

The new Transit Connect replaces the council’s previous generation Connect which provided a reliable service for 10 years.

The council has an annual vehicle replacement programme of more than 25 Fords, allowing them to streamline their fleet, ensuring the chosen vehicles meet its specific needs and requirements. The authority looks for vehicles which are operationally effective, fuel efficient and with minimum vehicle emissions.

The Transit Connect comes with a choice of engines including the award-winning 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine, which produces 100hp and 170Nm of torque with a six-speed manual transmission.

The standard TDCi 95PS diesel, combined with fuel-saving technologies such as Auto-Start-Stop, achieves around 24% better fuel economy and 25% lower CO2 emissions than the outgoing model.
