Ford Transit – 22,506 registrations
A van doesn’t get to its 50th birthday if it’s not a success and the current Transit’s position on this list assured because on top of being a great drive, there is a wide choice of models.
The best version yet of this Ford van, this workhorse also has plenty of kit in standard specification, a good choice of load volumes, powertrain choices including all-wheel drive, and plenty of safety kit.

Vauxhall Vivaro – 23,208 registrations
Another new van on this list for 2015 is the all-new Vauxhall Vivaro. Building on the success of the previous generation van, the new Vivaro is even more refined, comfortable and has a practical load area.
On top the load area, the latest Vivaro, like the co-developed Renault Trafic, has a lower car-like driving position, is well-equipped and the build quality is sturdy.

Ford Transit Custom – 37,052 registrations
The mid-sized version of the Transit, the second Ford van celebrating its 50th birthday this year, the Custom, is the best-selling van in the UK of 2015 and riding high in the overall vehicle sales charts too – see Soaraway Ford’s van sales best in 30 years.
Why? Well on top of the massive choice of long and short wheelbase versions, the front-wheel drive chassis brings the keenest driving van in the mid-sized van sector. The 2.2-litre TDCi diesel, which is available in three different versions, is also kind on the pocket.

Since when has the Ford Transit Custom offered a RWD option……….? Must have missed that somewhere. Anyhow, I’ve just acquired one (290L2, 155ps, DCIV Limited in Deep Impact Blue) and it is a fantastic piece of kit. Why anyone would lay out the extra money on a T5 or T6 Volkswagen Transporter, other than for snob value, is beyond me. I used to buy VW, both car and commercial, but am now a fully signed-up disciple of the Blue Oval!
Whoops – thanks Chris, slip amid myriad of motors. Amended!.
