Tyrefix does mobile tyre repairs and replacements for heavy machinery. The vans are mobile workshops and lead a hard life

EVER stayed loyal to one make of van until you fancied a change – then regretted it?

That’s what happened when mobile tyre repair and replacement specialist Tyrefix abandoned its policy of buying pre-owned Mercedes-Benz vans, and instead bought a fleet of new vehicles from another manufacturer.

Tyrefix aims to renew its entire 75-strong fleet of mobile workshops with Mercedes Sprinters

Tyrefix provides a mobile tyre repair and replacement service to construction and civil engineering industry customers operating kit like diggers and tractors. Each of its vans is equipped as a mobile workshop and the nature of the work is tough and mucky.

Tyrefix UK operations director Tony Etheridge told Business Vans: “We previously bought secondhand Mercedes-Benz vans. They always served us well but we decided it was time to ‘smarten up’ our image by moving to a 75-strong fleet of new vans.

He said the company had been offered a ‘very cheap’ deal by another manufacturer so took the plunge – then a year of trouble followed year, as up to seven vans a day broke down with a whole range of problems.

“What’s more, we couldn’t get warranty cover for more than 100,000 miles,” he said, “so now, as each one reaches that figure, we’re taking the opportunity to replace it with a new Mercedes-Benz.”
