Volkswagen's Cross Caddy goes rugged

Cross Caddy has new rugged styling, striking Viper Green paintwork and can also be had with four-wheel-drive

It sounds like a golfer’s disgruntled assistant, but Volkswagen’s new Cross Caddy, introduced today at the Hannover Commercial Vehicle Show, is designed to appeal to business buyers who want a van with styling that stands out from the crowd and, in the case of the 4MOTION four-wheel-drive variant, a degree of off-road ability, too.

The Cross Caddy is equipped with 17-inch ‘Canyon’ wheels fitted with 205/50Rx17 tyres and comes in Viper Green, making instantly recognisable as a stand-alone model. Front and side impact bars on the side sills enhance the ‘off-road’ look.

In addition to the wheels and body kit, the Cross Caddy has an enhanced level of interior trim. It’s available as a five- or seven-seater in short-wheelbase form. For business van buyers with an aversion to green, eight other colours are also offered.

There is a choice of engines – TSI, TDI, natural gas and LPG with outputs ranging from 86hp to 170hp, plus versions with DSG and 4MOTION four-wheel-drive. It will be available in early 2013.
