Handing over the VW Transporter support van to part of the team that will attempt to sail around Britain in an inflatable

SAILING around Britain in an inflatable boat is a venture that sounds like it needs solid backing.

without our sponsors we wouldn’t be able to attempt such a gruelling quest

The Round Britain 999 Coastal Challenge aims to raise £50,000 for two charities – the Watersafe UK Search and Rescue Team (WUKSART) and the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI). They’ll set off from the RNLI’s base in Poole and attempt the 2000 mile circumnavigation over 10 days.

The Challenge will go clockwise around Britain, stopping at nine RNLI lifeboat stations along the way using a rigid inflatable with a crew of four.

VW’s Imperial Commercials Van Centre will provide provide Kombi versions of the VW Transporter, our Business Van of the Year, as support vehicles for the Challenge. The Kombis will carry spare equipment and will transport both crew members and the land-based support team between the RNLI bases.

Nigel Cobb who is the team leader from WUKSART said “We are delighted that the Imperial Commercials Van Centres have come on board; without our sponsors we wouldn’t be able to attempt such a gruelling quest.”

Encouragement too from the Imperial Commercials head of business, David Starr. “This is a major fundraising event for two amazing charities that put their own lives at risk to help others. The least we can do is provide vans to support the challenge.”
