Drug driving an increasing issue for fleets

By |2022-08-16T14:00:23+01:00August 16th, 2022|Archive|

Growing problem here is not with recreational drugs but those that have been prescribed by your doctor or even those can be bought freely in any pharmacy and often supermarkets, too. Ironically, they can even be found in service stations. There is a relatively long list of medications that are used every day for perfectly legitimate reasons by employees driving cars on business but which contain ingredients that are actually illegal and will increase the chances of being involved in an accident in a similar manner to drink-driving

EV isolator problem no closer to being resolved

By |2022-07-18T10:05:09+01:00July 18th, 2022|Archive|

Electricity industry regulations were changed last year to require at least two visits to fit an EV charger, including one from a representative of an energy provider to fit the isolator. To reverse the decision or adopt a better solution requires agreement from around 40 energy providers – but that doesn’t seem to be forthcoming. In the meantime, fleets and their drivers are having to wait long periods for their home chargers to be fitted while paying more, which is a genuine headache at a point in time when many fleets are enthusiastically pursuing electrification strategies

Fleet sector needs to have constructive discussions about road charging

Road charging scheme needs to be, above all, fair and easy to use – especially when it came to payment processing. There is a concern is that the technology adopted proves too complex and, as a result, is difficult both to introduce and to use. There is a strong argument, we believe, for a graduated approach over time with simple systems being introduced in the first instance, such as tolls on some major motorways.

Lightfoot launches new solution to slashing speeding in fleets

By |2022-05-25T12:56:53+01:00May 26th, 2022|Archive|

New development, which is available as an add-on to Lightfoot’s system, notifies drivers whenever they exceed the speed limit. Using Lightfoot’s patented nudge psychology, the dashboard device encourages drivers to adjust their speed with a series of warnings should they stray above speed limit for 10 seconds or more.

Heavy vans weighing more than 2.5 -3.5 tonnes declined by 9.9% to 10,638 units despite robust demand, as supply constraints continue to affect the market. Small vans under 2.0 tonnes decreased by 52.2% whilst pickups were down by 36.0%. Demand for 4x4s rose by 49.0% although these represent a small proportion of the overall market (76 units).

Charity starts its electric journey with Fleet Alliance

By |2022-02-24T11:22:00+00:00February 24th, 2022|Archive|

TCV operates a fleet of around 75 light commercial vehicles, with a mixture of short, medium and long wheelbase vans and number of minibuses, all diesel-powered.  However, due to the nature of its conservation activities and the fact that many of its vehicles are operating in Clean Air Zones and facing penalties for not being ultra-low emission, the charity decided to explore the options around switching to electric vehicles (EVs).

Fleet electrification plans undermined by supply issues

By |2022-02-02T08:59:58+00:00February 2nd, 2022|Archive|

Issue is significantly affecting electric cars but the situation for vans is even more acute and means that some businesses are even considering adding petrol and diesel vehicles back onto their choice lists. Many company car drivers are placing huge pressure on their employees to move them into EVs because of the current benefit in kind advantages but the supply to satisfy that demand is very frequently unavailable.

Building a post pandemic fleet

By |2021-07-26T12:09:12+01:00July 26th, 2021|Archive|

Many fleets saw an increase in demand for their delivery or mobile services during the pandemic induced lockdowns, while others had the majority of company cars sit idle on driveways. Either way, fleet requirements changed dramatically from March 2020 onward, and are set for another shift when restrictions lift.
