HMRC updates Fuel Advisory Rate

Rates apply to employees using a company car and can be used  to either reimburse employees for business travel in their company cars or if employees need to repay the cost of fuel used for private travel. Changes see a slight reduction in AFR for diesel, between 1p and 2p per mile depending in engine size, while there is no change for petrol or electric vehicles.

A group of 28 leading UK businesses with some of the largest fleets in the UK, Climate Group is calling for an ambitious ZEV mandate in a response to the third and final consultation on the issue.  Climate Group is urging the government to set bolder sales targets for cars and vans to encourage supply of electric vehicles (EVs) – the most efficient ZEV available with no emissions at the tailpipe - and give confidence to leading businesses that are already investing in the technology.

The annual benefit in kind tax liability for company vans is a fixed rate – unlike cars, where the tax is based on a scale of CO2 emissions and the list price of the car. These measures are annual upratings that increase the van benefit charge and the car and van fuel benefit charges by the Consumer Price Index from 6 April 2023 and have been uprated annually since 2014.
