This van is nicknamed the “backbone of Britain” for good reason. It is the most popular van on our roads and is Ford’s flagship model. In fact, it is probably the best-known van in the worldwide commercial vehicle market. However, Ford has introduced four different editions of the Ford Transit, allowing you to get a great van that matches your different business requirements.
You have the Transit Courier, which is the smallest van on offer. It is a small city van, great for the small jobs around towns and cities. Next is the Transit Connect, which is a compact van. This one still isn’t huge, but it carries more in terms of weight and space, making it perfect for most jobs.
Following that is the Transit Custom is the mid-size panel van, which most of us see on the roads. Then there is the full size, Transit ‘two-tonne’ that carries the most in terms of weight and space.
The Ford Transit has an eight-way adjustable driver’s seat, full bulkhead and plenty of safety tech. The load length for the ‘two-tonne’ is split into three: L2, L3 & L4 and the roof height is split into two choices: H2 & H3. You can choose the options you want, dependent upon your business requirements.
Volkswagen offers a great van, the Crafter. It offers real quality with excellent ride comfort and plenty of safety technology to ensure you are in the best place in terms of driving. The cabin is first class and you do really feel like you are in a premium vehicle.
The Crafter has three engines to choose from. Each is a 2.0-litre TDI Diesel engine that produces either 100bhp, 138bhp or 174bhp. Crafter vans do also come with either front, rear or four-wheel drive systems and either 6-speed or 8-speed automatic gearboxes.
In terms of what the Crafter can carry, it offers a gross vehicle weight of up to 5.5 tonnes, cargo volume of up to 18.4m3 and a load height of up to 2.2m. This van offers businesses so much possibility in terms of what they can carry and what jobs this van can be used for.
This van is almost as famous as the Ford Transit. There is plenty of talent on offer with the Sprinter including three different wheelbases, four different body lengths, three roof heights and nine different body styles. In other words, as a business, you can design your own Sprinter van to suit your business needs.
Here are just a few of the options you can turn the Sprinter into. It can be a regular panel van, a Traveliner minibus, a dropside pick-up and an adaptable chassis cab, which you can use as a Luton van or coachbuilt motorhome. Each option has a variety of lengths and heights to go with it.
The Mercedes Sprinter offers you a range of engines to go with its multiple van editions. There is a 2.2-litre four cylinder engine and a 3.0-litre V6 engine. The four-cylinder engines produce either 95bhp, 129bhp or 163bhp depending upon the model you choose. The V6 engine throws out 190bhp. There is also a bi-fuel engine delivering 156bhp, which is powered by compressed natural gas and petrol.
Vauxhall Movano & Renault Master
The Vauxhall Movano is one of the most versatile heavy vans on the market. It shares its platform with the Renault Master, often known as its sister model.
