IT’S not going to shift a lot of cargo or carry much equipment, but Renault’s new commercial, the Renault Twizy Cargo, will get your business noticed for sure.
You can charge the Twizy from an ordinary plug – and it costs £1
And for city-based small delivery firms or single-crew maintenance jobs such as IT support, the eccentric Twizy Cargo might just be the right niche vehicle.
It’s based on the head-turning electric-powered Twizy, but has the rear tandem seat removed to provide 180 litres of load space and a lockable rear door. It can carry up to 75kg.
The Cargo is powered by a 17hp electric motor so forget motorway sprints, but it’ll keep up with town traffic – top speed is 56mph. And, measuring just 2338mm x 1237mm x 1454mm, the Twizy Cargo will be easy to manoeuvre and a doddle to park in tight spots.
It has a range of around 50 miles and the battery can be recharged via an ordinary three-pin plug using a build-in cable. According to Renault, a full charge costs only £1 and the battery can be topped up in 3 1⁄2 hours.
And its not just fuel costs where saving can be made. The RenaultTwizy Cargo also offers low servicing costs compared with conventional vans and is also exempt from the London congestion Charge and other city centre levies.
As a car-derived van, VAT is reclaimable on the purchase price making the ex-VAT cost £6241. It can also be recovered on battery hire, which costs from £36 per month excluding VAT.
If the prospect of standing out from the crowd and flaunting your business van’s green credentials appeals, Renault is offering a customising service with more than 40 colours and 30 pre-designed wraps available with a range of themes varying from national flags to animal prints.
And there’s even a bespoke service – different designs can be viewed using an online configurator tool.
