Steve Bridge – named managing director of Mercedes-Benz Vans under new divisional structure

MERCEDES-BENZ has appointed Steve Bridge as managing director of Mercedes-Benz Vans under a new divisional approach to the business.

The new divisional structure sees the UK sales operation split into three separate business divisions, each with their own management structure.

Steve, formerly the sales and marketing director of vans, joins Gary Savage (md of cars), and Michael Kamper (md of Trucks).

Further changes include the promotion of former president and ceo of Mercedes-Benz UK, Marcus Breitschwerdt, to the role of head of Mercedes-Benz Cars Europe Region after three years in charge of the UK operation, and the appointment of Gary Savage as the new ceo of Mercedes-Benz UK.

Under Breitschwerdt’s three year reign at Mercedes, van sales have grown by 34 per cent from 22,500 units to more than 30,000 – a breakthrough for the UK business, while truck sales increased by 99 per cent from 4,800 to more than 9,500.

Steve Bridge was appointed to the role of sales and marketing director of Mercedes-Benz vans in July 2006, having joined Mercedes in 2000 as a fleet sales manager, before rising to national fleet sales manager, Mercedes-Benz Vans, in 2003.

His previous experience prior to Mercedes-Benz includes Lex Transfleet, with responsibility for Heavy Commercial Contract Hire, and contract hire and fleet management company GE Capital.
