Fiat Ducato review cab interior

The cab should keep the driver in good humour all the working day

The cab in the Fiat Ducato has room for three and there’s plenty of storage for official documents and personal items alike. With the gear lever dash mounted the centre-seat passenger has plenty of leg-room.

Fiat Ducato review load access

Access is easy via the decently sized side and rear doors. A second, offside side door is available as an option

It’s all very comfortable. There’s an impressive list of refinements, too:

  • a Radio/CD/MP3 player;
  • driver’s seat with armrest and height;
  • reach & rake adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support;
  • dual passenger seat with fold-down centre table;
  • electric front windows;
  • electric heated door mirrors;
  • ‘techno’ dashboard;
  • tinted windows;
  • trip computer;
  • upholstered cab roof; and
  • fascia-mounted 12V socket.

What’s more, the Fiat Ducato is offered with a comprehensive range of options, including climate control air con and rear-view camera. Our Fiat Ducato review model was equipped with air conditioning (£855.75), front fog lights (£117.75), cruise control (£158.75), Blue & Me Bluetooth and USB connectivity with controls on the steering wheel (£271.50) and reverse parking sensor (£230.50).

For a while, the Ducato lagged behind its competitors as ESP was offered only as an option. But with the introduction of ESP as standard across the Ducato range from April this year this is no longer the case.

Fiat Ducato review – plylined cargo area

You can pack a lot of cargo into a 10cu m loadspace. Ply lining is available as an option

As well as an important safety device that uses information from various sensors to check whether a vehicle is cornering safely or not, ESP incorporates other critical technologies that will help you run a safer and more secure business van. There’s

  • Load Adaptive Control (LAC) – this identifies the size of the load and the vehicle’s centre of gravity enabling the systems to work at peak effectiveness;
  • Hill Holder – makes starts on slopes easier by holding the brake on momentarily after the driver’s foot has released the pedal;
  • Hydraulic Brake Assist (HBA) – increases braking pressure under emergency conditions; and
  • Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR) – prevent one or both drive wheels skidding.

That’s the driving bit.

What about the cargo?

The Fiat Ducato L2H1 medium-wheelbase review model offers a respectable loadspace with a load length of length 3120mm, width 1870mm and height of 1662mm. Width between wheelarches is 1422mm. Load volume is 10cu m and payload is 1600kg.

Access to the load area is a piece of cake, too, with decent-sized rear doors and side door. A second sliding offside side door can be specified as an extra at £312.50.

When it comes to maintenance, the 30,000-mile service intervals stack up well against rivals and a three-year/120,000-mile warranty is provided.
