The Fiesta Sport Van looks racy – especially in red – and is terrific fun to drive
The controls and instruments are well designed. A radio/CD player with DAB, 3.5in dot-matrix display, AUX and USB connection are fitted as well as Ford SYNC with Emergency Assist, which is designed to help the driver place a call to the emergency services.
Other refinements include air conditioning, cruise control, body-coloured power-folding heated door mirrors and a very efficient ‘Quickclear’ heated front screen.
In terms of safety, the Sports Van has Ford’s Intelligent Protection System with driver and passenger front airbags, plus side airbags and driver’s knee airbag. ABS with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution) and Electronic Stability Programme with Hill Start Assist plus Emergency Brake Assist are also part of the package.
The Sport Van is powered by a 95hp four-cylinder turbo-diesel Duratorq engine which produces a healthy dollop of torque at 200Nm.
There’s no element of fraud about those sporty looks – this power plant will propel the Sport Van from standstill to 62mph in 12.9 seconds and, where legal, on to a top speed of 113mph.
The lowered ride height and sports-tuned suspension keep the van hugging the road and the precise steering and slick five-speed box make the driving experience even more enjoyable.
As for cargo carrying, with a 1cu m loadspace, anything bulky is ruled out. For around-town courier work, or maintenance visits with a toolbox and low-volume spares on board, the Fiesta Sport Van would be ideal. Being based on a hatchback, there’s a fairly high sill to contend with.
The loadspace has a steel bulkhead with mesh upper section, four DIN-compliant cargo tie-down hooks, sidewall trim and a tough rubber floor mat.
The Sports Van is covered by a three-year/60,000-mile warranty. Service intervals are set at 12,500 miles/12 months. That’s a lower mileage than the 20,000/12-month service interval of the Corsavan Sportive and more frequent than 21,000-mile/24-month interval of the Punto Van.
