Nissan NV200 n-tec

Road Test Review: COLIN DAWSON

Neat and tidy Nissan NV200 is big on loadspace

Nissan's eye-catching styling houses a van that's a joy to drive with plenty of room for cargo

What is it?

NISSAN’S neat and tidy NV200 light van broke away from the constraints of re-badged Renaults with eye-catching styling that houses a four-cylinder 1.5-litre turbo-diesel power unit, well-appointed two-seat cab, and surprisingly large cargo capacity for a short-wheelbase vehicle.

Our test model, the n-tec, is equipped with a 110hp four-cylinder common-rail engine, which develops 240Nm of torque driving through a six-speed manual gearbox. The dash-mounted change is slick in operation and the overall driving position is good.

The torquey engine gives the NV200 plenty of zip making the NV200 a joy to drive. The ride could perhaps be better but in general it’s comfortable to travel in, the supportive seats adding to the ease.

The n-tec grade is well appointed and includes Nissan Connect satellite navigation, cruise control, driver-adjustable speed limiter, front electric windows, electric mirrors, CD/FM audio with two speakers, MP3 aux jack, Bluetooth and trip computer.

On the practical side, there are 13 cabin storage areas, a fold-flat passenger seat back, and under-seat storage. Safety features include rear-view camera, ABS and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, driver airbag, immobiliser, remote central locking, superlocking and shielded door locks.

Business Vans verdict

The NV200 is comfortable and easy to manoeuvre, and its drivability makes it suitable for both around-town operations and long trips. The generous loadspace for a vehicle of this size is a bonus.
