Renault, Twizy, Cargo, load, area

You’ll be surprised what you can fit in the Renault Twizy Cargo’s diminutive load area

What’s hot

  •  Let’s get this clear from the start – this is no ordinary van and Renault doesn’t expect to sell them in their thousands. They are what they are – a novelty. But just think. Everyone stops to stare at this little vehicle and if your company decals happen to be on the side, people will be staring at them too. In short this van is the most cost-effective billboard you are every likely to come across.
  •  Looks. You’ll either laugh yourself silly at this vehicle or fall in love with it. We reckon it’s the cutest thing since the invention of Britney Spears and we now hold both items in the highest esteem.
  •  Fun? I haven’t had so much fun driving a vehicle since I tested an 8.5-litre Dodge Ram back in 2007. The Twizy goes like a rocket with max power coming from a standstill and it corners like a go-kart. Once you get used to the fact that you are open to the elements the Twizy doesn’t feel that much different from a small car. And as it is relatively tall for its size, it doesn’t feel as though you are being towered over by Fiat 500s and the like. Be warned though – the suspension is pretty hard and doesn’t like hitting bumps and dips at speed.
  •  The diminutive load area sounds like it isn’t worth having but in fact you’d be surprised how much you can cram in the back with a bit of careful thinking.

Renault, Twizy, commercial , doors, up

Twizy Cargo doors are a £545 option – they really should be standard!

What’s not

  • What’s not hot? Well me for starters! This is the first ever commercial vehicle we have tested with no side windows and as our test days were dull, cold and overcast, I was treated to a blast of good old British air on my travels. Fortunately it didn’t rain, as then I would have been cold AND wet. At my time of life, treatment like that might just finish me off!
  • Doors as a paid-for extra. Are they kidding? No indeed they aren’t. Unless you cough up an extra £545 on the price of the base vehicle, you’ll be completely open to the elements – and any car drivers who might happen to T-bone you as well.
