Volkswagen Caddy 2.0 TDI Bluemotion review

What is it?

At first glance, Caddy Mk4 looks like a more angular version of the Mk3 – but get past the looks and you realise there are more significant changes than just the slicker exterior metalwork.

Under the new metal, Caddy Mk4 boasts a new range of class-leading safety, convenience and comfort features.

We got an early drive in the Euro 6-compliant Bluemotion – which is now a trim rather than just being about the engine.

What’s hot?

  • The basic Caddy silhouette is unchanged from the Mk3, but Volkswagen has added angles and styling lines that follow their passenger car designs. Highlights at the front are the new headlights, wider front grille and more sculpted front bumper. At the side, there’s a sharper design line. Smaller, sleeker wing mirrors are also available as an option, while at the back there are more modern-looking light clusters and a new rear bumper.
  • If you think that the exterior looks too similar to the outgoing Caddy, you’ll be more impressed with the new Volkswagen van’s interior. Like the exterior, it’s clear that the redesign has been influenced by the latest Volkswagen passenger cars. The more horizontal design looks like it could have been borrowed from the current Golf and the optional multifunction steering wheel, instruments, switchgear and our test Bluemotion van’s touchscreen, probably have!
  • Inside and out, the Caddy is finished to a high standard and feels built to last.
  • Getting behind the wheel of the new Caddy is easy and like the outgoing model, it is quick to get comfortable with when you get there. The standard seats are supportive, the switchgear is logically placed and the instruments easy to read at a glance.
