Amarok Canyon looks like a 'thoroughbred'

Copper Orange paintwork is exclusive to the Amarok Canyon as is the option of a light bar

Volkswagen is to offer a special-edition version of the Amarok 4×4 double-cab pick-up based on the concept model first shown earlier this year. The concept provoked such a positive reaction the company decided to introduce the Amarok Canyon model from early next year.

Announcing the news at the Hannover Commercial Vehicle Show today, Volkswagen board member for CVs Dr Eckhard Scholz said: “The special Canyon model is not only a real thoroughbred to look at, but is also a utility vehicle in the best meaning of the word.”

It comes with Copper Orange paintwork, exclusive to the special-edition model as is the option of a light bar mounted with four lamps. Other visual features include undercarriage guards in body colour with contrasting black wheelarches, and the Canyon name detailed on the sill sidebars and tailgate. Interior trim reflects the limited-edition colour scheme. To protect the cargo, the load bed is covered by a sturdy louvre ‘rollcover’.

The Amarok Canyon is powered by a 2-litre, 180hp TDI engine, which provides maximum torque of 400Nm, combined with permanent (4MOTION) or on-demand four-wheel-drive plus an optional differential lock in the rear axle. If your business vehicle use takes you beyond tarmac, this is a serious proposition.

The special-edition double-cab pick-up has 17in alloy wheels fitted with 245/70Rx17 all-terrain tyres; and 18in wheels with road tyres can be specified.

In addition to the Copper Orange finish exclusive to this model, the Amarok Canyon will also be available for business van buyers in Reflex Silver, Natural Silver and Sand Beige. A practical hard top can be fitted instead of the light bar and cargo space cover.
