FOR van operators looking for a cleaner edge to their vehicle deliveries and van management then the new Citroen Berlingo Electric could be the answer.
Launched in the UK at the CV Show, the Citroen Berlingo Electric costs £21,300 + VAT before any plug-in van grant.
The electric version of the Berlingo van has an official operating range of 106 miles, and can be fully charged in 12 hours using a domestic socket, or 80% capacity charged in 35 minutes using a quick-charger.
The first generation Berlingo Electrique van (from 1995-2008) had batteries that were leased separately; the new Berlingo Electric has the lithium ion battery pack included in the price.
Scott Michael, Citroen head of commercial vehicles & business centre programme, said that the new Berlingo Electric would meet the requirements of several specialist sectors.
“Our previous electric LCV experience suggests these include local authority applications such as meals on wheels and parks departments while we also expect demand from urban-based businesses, where its ease of driving and silent operation are key features.”
Despite the battery pack, the Berlingo Electric loses nothing in terms of load competitiveness, which matches the Berlingo Diesel at 3.3 cu m and payload of 636kg.
The Citroen Berlingo Electric matches the LX in terms of specification but adds air conditioning, too.

For van management planning, the Berlingo Electric goes on sale in Q3 2013 by which time the plug-in van grant will be confirmed.
