Vauxhall Corsavan now gets Start/Stop economy-boosting technology

Corsavan: better economy with Start/Stop tech

Boost for fuel economy with new mpg-saving tech

THE Corsavan has become the first Vauxhall commercial vehicle to feature Start/Stop technology.

The system brings about a major boost in fuel economy.

The new Euro 5-compliant 75PS 1.3 CDTi Corsavan now achieves 70.6mpg combined, nearly 8mpg (12%) better than the previous Euro 4 model.

And around town the reduction is even better, where the Start/Stop system really comes into its own. The mpg improvement is more than 18%: that’s 58.9mpg on the urban cycle.

In addition, the improved engines have brought a 14g/km reduction in CO2 emissions, down to 105g, while torque will also increase by 20Nm to 190Nm. All Start/Stop vans are also fitted with a Diesel Particulate Filter.

The principle of Start/Stop is simple. Instead of the engine idling at traffic lights or at a level crossing, the engine will automatically stop when the driver engages neutral and releases the clutch pedal. When the traffic lights turn green, the driver simply presses the clutch pedal to re-start the engine, engage first and move away. The vehicle’s ventilation, power steering and braking system performance are maintained while the engine is temporarily off.

An enhanced starter motor is used, along with a high performance battery and Electric Power Management system, for efficient re-starts. An additional water pump keeps the cabin warm in cool weather during the stop phase, and owners have the ability to turn off Start/Stop completely via a dashboard button.

Start/Stop model adds £220 to the price of the 75PS Euro 5 Corsavan ecoFLEX 1.3 CDTi. It costs £12,231 on the road, including VAT.
