Americans are being offered the Fiat Ducato rebranded as the Ram Promaster

NEWS has reached us that the evergreen Fiat Ducato, stalwart of many a van fleet and much loved by the camper van fraternity, is now on sale in the USA.

But it won’t be called the Fiat Ducato. Instead the van will bear the moniker Ram Promaster.

And will this van be powered by a frugal 2.3-litre turbodiesel engine as in the UK? Indeed it will not.

Despite professing a desire to clean up its noxious emissions, the Yanks will be blasting around in the Promaster with a 3.6-litre V6 petrol engine with auto transmission under the bonnet.

To be fair, the 3.0-litre unit available in Europe will also be on offer but we don’t think this version will go down well over the pond. They really don’t “get” diesel engines.
