Ford Ranger pick-up clocks up another award

Latest award is the Ford Ranger’s eighth accolade in 12 months

THE Ford Ranger has added another accolade to its impressive tally of awards by being named Total 4×4 magazine’s 2013 Pick-Up of the Year.

The new Ranger, which was introduced to the UK in late 2011, has been the recipient of eight awards in the past 12 months.

The four-wheel-drive Ranger is available in Regular (single), Super (extended) and Double-cab variants and powered by 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi engine, with power outputs from 125hp, 150hp and 200hp, depending on model. A 4×2 version is also available.

In tests by the specialist off-road magazine, it scored high marks on interior quality, comfort and practicality. The magazine’s editor Alan Kidd said: “The double-cab market tends to move forward in occasional great leaps, and they don’t come much greater than the new Ranger. The last year has seen a huge amount of fresh talent in this sector, but Ford has set a new benchmark with this truck.

“It’s excellent inside and out, commanding on the road and very capable off it. It’s as good as it looks, and it looks great. The pick-up segment has never seen the bar raised so far in one go.”

The Ford Ranger was also the recipient of 4×4 Magazine’s Pick-up of the Year Award in December.

Ford Britain managing director Mark Ovenden told Business Vans: “Ford Ranger’s latest award success is a superb way to kick off 2013. The vehicle has the best towing capacity, load capacity and wading depth of any other in the segment. Combined with its car-like cabin, the Ford Ranger is proving very popular with business van customers.”
