WE always like to find the reasons for businesses deciding to go for a particular type of van.
we can get our new vans maintained outside our own working hours, thus avoiding costly downtime
Rhodar is an asbestos removal specialist in Leeds that runs over 180 Mercedes vans and its latest batch of 16 Mercs will replace vans from another manufacturer.
14 of the new Mercedes vans are Sprinters; there’s also a single Mercedes Vito, and a Citan included in the deal.
The Sprinters are all 313 CDI models with ECO-Start. The Vito is a 113 CDI and the Citan is a 109CDI and both of these are Dualiner models with a second row of seats so they an carry 4 passengers as well as cargo.
So why the switch back to Mercedes?
There were four reasons for the decision to return to Mercedes according to Rhodar’s group fleet manager, Steven Haigh.
First was economy and running costs, both of which proved poor on the other vans: “By contrast we know from experience that the Sprinter is extremely cost-effective to operate, and very reliable,” said Mr Haigh.
“Also important is the fact that we can get our new vans maintained outside our own working hours, thus avoiding costly downtime.
“Unlike the supplier of the vans we’ve stood down, which was basically a car dealer, Northside [the dealer which supplied the vans] are proper commercial vehicle specialists and understand our business needs perfectly.”
