You take pride in your appearance – but what about your company vehicle? Do you regularly declutter? Does it get a good valet once a month and a regular wash?

Remember that if you do not look after your company car and it is returned in less than acceptable condition, end of lease charges could apply to your employer and some maybe recharged personally to you.

Remember your tyres!

Out of all of the things to check on your car that you really should remember as far as safety goes, it’s your tyres. Poor tread on tyres has severe safety implications and could also cost you dearly if you are fined for them being illegal.

In fact, illegal tyres result in three points on your licence and a £2500 fine: per tyre.

Always keep an eye out for any gouges or missing tyre pieces, check your depth is above the minimum legal requirement of 1.6mm and make sure that your tyre pressure is always correct.

If your tyres need replacing then don’t take any chances – speak with your company car manager or employer if you have any concerns before it becomes an issue.

Improve fuel economy

Think about your pence per mile reimbursements if you are a company car driver – it makes sense to get the most fuel for your buck!

Of course, being less heavy-footed can make a difference but also, planning your journeys by getting traffic updates prior to setting off on journeys to avoid queues can help, too, as can braking gently.
