The Ironman triathlon is a grueling test – a little support will be a comfort to competitors

THE Mercedes Vito Sport is the official vehicle partner of the Ironman Tour for 2014.

If you’ve yet to try one, Ironman is the ultimate endurance test; a triathlon comprising a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile cycle ride and a marathon, back-to-back, without a break, and all to be completed within 17 hours if the contestant is to pick up the coveted Ironman status.

So contestants will be glad of a bit of support.

Mercedes-Benz is the official partner for the Ironman European tour for this year and next, with nine races taking place in the UK, Germany, Denmark, France, Austria and Spain.

There’ll be two events in the UK – in Bolton on July 20 and in Pembrokeshire on September 14. At both the the Mercedes Vito Sport will be the official support vehicle – used as the lead vehicle in the road races, as a support and recovery vehicle for athletes on the course, and to ship the organisers around.

Steve Bridge, managing director of Mercedes Vans said said, “We’re delighted to be the official vehicle Partner to the Ironman UK Tour. The Vito Sport is the ultimate vehicle for athletes and their families with the ability to carry bikes, room for athletes to get changed and space to carry all the kit required to complete an Ironman event.”
