Joe Rafferty travels all over the country with mountain bike instructors and all their associated kit. Speed and comfort, as well as image, are important to him

EVEN if your business’s main form of transport is on two wheels – in the form a state-of-the-art mountain bike – it’s still likely you’ll need decent four-wheeled motor to keep you on the move.

Joe Rafferty, elite racer and owner of mountain bike company Pro Ride Guides, certainly needs the right kind of vehicle for his operation.

As well as running a race team, North Yorkshire-based Joe employs a team of instructors and organises mountain bike events as far away as the Forest of Dean.

He previously ran a Mercedes-Benz Vito van but recently upgraded to a Mercedes Vito Sport-X Dualiner, supplied by Northside Truck & Van. The Vito Sport-X is equipped with a 3.0-litre engine which transmits its 224hp output to the road via a five-speed automatic transmission.

As a Dualiner model it also has a second row of seats, allowing Joe to transport five people, plus their bikes and other equipment, in speed and comfort.

Joe told Business Vans: “I had a Vito van previously but the Sport-X is much more powerful – it eats up the miles on long journeys and never feels as though it’s working too hard.”

And Joe’s Mercedes Vito Sport-X has been given a striking appearance thanks to renowned tuning and body styling specialist Brabus, which designed its 18-inch alloy wheels, customised front spoiler and chrome sidebars.
