A CUSTOMISED Vauxhall Vivaro van called the Vauxhall Art Cargo will be packed full of works of art and art-making materials on the latest round of the company’s touring anarchic extravaganza – the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair.
As with previous Fairs, the 2014 series will feature well-known as well as up-and-coming artists who pitch up to sell original and limited-edition works of art from the back of new and vintage Vauxhall motors, at ‘special’ prices.
The event has become established as a day when the art world lets its hair down, filling the car park with English eccentricity, quirky ideas, cool art, eclectic wares, incredible bargains, and madcap performances.
Events taking place in Liverpool on 5 July as part of the opening weekend of the Liverpool Biennial art festival, and in Folkestone on 30 August as part of the opening weekend of the Folkestone Triennial art festival, have already been confirmed.
Vauxhall says this link-up with international arts extravaganzas will see the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair add exciting artists and performers to a stellar line-up and mix of frivolity, fabulous entertainment, artisan food and high-end art bargains.
In addition to the Vauxhall Art Cargo Vivaro, there will be the ‘Go Forth Plinth’ featuring a series of commissions by artists, creating special artworks to be shown on the roof-racks of Vauxhall cars. Each roof-rack installation will have associated editions for bargain art hunters.
Vauxhall is expecting an ‘art-buying frenzy’ from the moment the doors open to an expected queue of 1000-plus, waiting for the chance to grab special just-for-the-day artworks. Something for every budget is promised with works typically on sale for between £10 to £1000.
