Andrew Valentine: better service for small firms

Better service for small businesses needing van rental

CAR club Streetcar, owner of the Streetvan operation, is planning to increase the service small businesses can expect from joining its van club.

Currently Streetvan operates 200 vans – all VW Transporters – from 150 locations around London.

“It’s not a great experience renting a van in London through the usual daily rental channels,” says Andrew Valentine, managing director of Streetcar. “We are working hard to turn that experience around with the Streetvan concept.”

Mr Valentine says it costs just £19.50 to register with Streetvan, while rates range from £8.95 per hour to £79.50 for 24 hours. A Monday to Friday rental costs £275.

“For traders that don’t always need a van, or for businesses operating a smaller van, it makes economic sense to rent a van through us for the occasions it’s required,” Mr Valentine said. “You just simply pay for its use without incurring any of the standing costs.”

Streetvan provides 30 free miles of fuel, business insurance and the London Congestion Charge in the Streetvan hire. Users are responsible for the condition of the van on pick up and return. Vans are unlocked using a smartcard.

Mr Valentine said the firm’s van fleet had expanded in percentage terms more than its car fleet during 2010.
