Story: COLIN DAWSON
Ford’s commercial vehicle line-up, recently revitalised with the launch of its new-generation Transits – the award-winning Custom and the Transit Connect – will be completed with the introduction of a car-derived van based on the Tourneo platform.
The all-new Tourneo Connect, along with the Tourneo Custom, was recently unveiled in people carrier form, offering a choice of five- and seven-seat models, plus an all-new interior.
The new small Ford LCV will be known as the Tourneo Courier – an old Fiesta van name – and, according to Ford, will target best-in-class fuel economy by offering a choice of highly efficient downsized diesel and petrol engines and Ford ECOnetic Technologies features.
The new model will be equipped with sliding rear doors, ‘smart’ stowage areas, a stylish cabin and the latest premium features.
The Tourneo Courier will go on sale in Europe next year, along with the Tourneo Connect. The new eight/nine-seat Tourneo Custom people mover is available for business van users now.
The introduction of the Tourneo Courier rationalises the Ford LCV line-up from Transit 2-tonne, down to Custom, Connect and Courier below.
