If you don’t want a hard-top, and you need to carry long loads, here’s your solution – the ingenious Truckman Invis-A-Rack

A PICK-up might suit your business transport needs, but the open back can be inconvenient if you sometimes need to carry long items such as pipes or plywood sheeting, which are oversized for the load bed.

Sure, you could buy a hard top and add some ladder rails, but if you’d rather keep your pick-up bed open, then help’s at hand, thanks to an idea first pitched on the US version of Dragon’s Den.

Inventor Donny McCall failed to attract investment from the American ‘dragons’ for his retractable cab-level racking system so he formed his own company – DeeZee – to produce the Invis-A-Rack in the US, rather than outsource production to China.

The ingenious collapsible racking system is now available in the UK from 4×4 accessory manufacturer and supplier Auto Styling Truckman.

The rack can hold 220kg, which allows it to carry heavy materials, such as metal pipes, timber and sheet material.

It’s made from lightweight aluminium and coated with a black textured finish to protect against corrosion.

When not in use, it can be folded away into rails clamped to the pick-up without affecting the truck bed storage space. The clamp installation allows the Invis-A-Rack to be fitted in minutes.

Auto Styling Truckman offers The Invis-A-Rack for Double Cab, Extra Cab and Single Cab versions of the current models of the most popular pick-up trucks:

  • Ford Ranger (Mk5)
  • Isuzu D-Max (Mk4)
  • Nissan Navara (Mk2)
  • Mitsubishi L200 (Mk7)
  • Toyota Hilux (Mk7)
  • Volkswagen Amarok (Mk1).

Extra Cab and Single Cab versions also come with a small storage box in the rail bed, which is useful for stowing ratchet straps and bungee cords.

Auto Styling Truckman managing director Mike Wheeler told Business Vans: “There is nothing like this available in the UK and European pick-up truck market and we are delighted to have secured this agreement with DeeZee.

“I met Donny at this year’s SEMA show and was immediately impressed with the product. As a UK-based manufacturer and distributor, I was also keen on DeeZee’s commitment to maintain its manufacturing operation in the United States.”

The double cab Invis-A-Rack costs £478.80 (including VAT) and the single cab and extra cab are £516.18 (inclusive VAT).
