True grit – Ford helps keep the UK’s roads clear

GRITIT employs a 140-strong fleet of Fords for gritting and snow-clearance duties

WITH the UK in the grip of another cold snap, nationwide gritting and snow-clearance company GRITIT looks likely to be working its 140-strong fleet of specialist vehicles round the clock to keep the country’s roads clear.

The company recently took delivery of 40 new Ford Ranger 4×4 pick-ups, adding to the 30 Rangers it bought in 2011. It also operates more than 70 Ford Transits and chassis-cab models and has used Ford vehicles exclusively since 2009.

GRITIT helps its customers avoid the threat of financial and physical risks created by adverse weather by providing seasonal gritting and maintenance services. During the warmer months of the year, staff plan for the cold periods, ensuring all the company’s vehicles and equipment are ready for the arrival of snow and ice.

Through an average winter, GRITIT will provide more than 100,000 service visits across the UK from its 92 depots.

GRITIT managing director Nikki Singh-Barmi told Business Vans: “Ford’s vehicles provide excellent reliability which is essential for our business. GRITIT operators visit retail, commercial, industrial, logistics, and health sector premises, demanding the utmost in versatility. Ford’s highly manoeuvrable, four-wheel-drive Ranger provides exactly what we need.

“We expect excellence from our operators so we give them the best equipment on the market. We’re constantly monitoring the business van competition but nothing competes with Ford and the excellent aftersales support we get.”
